Ballet is the foundation of all dance styles and is therefore very beneficial to all dancers. It will install the technique and strength required to explore other dance forms with ease.
In Ballet, every inch of your muscles are actively engaged in movements so its no wonder many students have well-toned muscles after having started regular training. Ballet is a fantastic way to improve a pupils posture, strength as well as install discipline.
Classes are open to children from 3 years old up to adults.
Examinations are available but not compulsory.
Pupils are encouraged to take at least one Ballet class a week as part of their training at Laura Deighton Dance Company.


Tap dance is a form of dance characterised by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. Two major variations on tap dance exist: rhythm (jazz) tap and Broadway tap. Broadway tap focuses on performance and it is widely performed in musical theatre.
Tap is a great way to develop a pupils rhythm and stamina. Classes are open to pupils from 3 years old up to adults.

Modern Jazz

Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. Every jazz dancer interprets and executes moves and steps in their own way. This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. These classes are always very popular and also develop a pupil's strength, stamina and technique. We have various classes for all age groups and abilities.
A great class to increase fitness levels and flexibility.
Exams are available but are not compulsory.

Contemporary Dance

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.
It requires versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. The dancers focus on floor work, using gravity to pull them down to the floor. This dance genre is often done in bare feet. This dance style can be performed to many different styles of music.
These classes are great for dancers of all abilities and classes are offered from eleven years old upwards.

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre is a form of performance that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting, and dance. In these classes, you can expect to develop your all round performance skills and learn well known Musical Theatre numbers from a variety of shows. This class also improves the pupils confidence.


Acro dance is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, which seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context.
