Ballroom and Latin dance are two distinct yet complementary styles of dance, typically (but not always) danced with a partner. Ballroom is characterised by its effortlessly smooth, flowing movement within the poised structure of the upper body frame, while Latin is known for its sharp footwork, rhythmic body isolations and dynamic movements.
Competitive ballroom is great for building endurance, spatial awareness and physical strength especially in leg and back muscles. Social ballroom is also very popular and offers a relaxed, stress-free way of moving to music.
I started my ballroom tuition aged 9, taking classes for around 18 months during which I earned my bronze medal and took my first steps into competitive dance. After several years away, I picked up dance aged 18 when starting university, dabbling in ballet, contemporary, jazz and street, but was drawn back to ballroom/latin a few months later and was hooked. From then, I started competing regionally and nationally across England, including at the iconic Empress Ballroom in Blackpool.
Working with the likes of Oliver Hand, Anastasiia Lysystyna and Jackie Conway, I’ve been fortunate enough to become a Champions of Tomorrow finalist, a Stars of the Future finalist, a Supadance national semi-finalist, and a UKA Bars & Stars champion. I’ve had some brilliant experiences teaching ballroom and latin to children and adults, and have partnered both at teacher-student events. I’m immensely passionate about dance, and love the process of working with students to make learning as rewarding and enjoyable as possible.
